Updates carry security patches and performance improvements, so keep automatic updates on. Downloads happen in the background and apply on the next restart without interrupting what you are reading.
How updates work
By default the browser checks every few hours, downloads in the background and applies the update at next launch. You can also click "check for updates" to do it immediately.

Reading what changed
The About page shows the current version and update state, and the release notes list the changes per version so you can judge whether to upgrade now.

When updates fail
Failures are usually disk permissions or network issues. Try running as administrator, check write permission on the install directory, or reinstall from the full installer (which keeps your data).

FAQ
Will updating delete my data?
No. Updates replace program files only; bookmarks, passwords and settings live in your user data directory and are untouched.
Can I turn off automatic updates?
We do not recommend it for personal use, but you can switch to "notify only". In enterprise, administrators control the update cadence and rollout.
